Top Reasons To Visit Kauai

The Hawaiian islands stir up ideas of paradise for many people. But with so many to visit, planning a trip to the Hawaiian islands can be difficult, and choosing which islands to visit and what activities to do can quickly overwhelm an enthusiastic planner. The trick is to focus on one area and see everything it has to offer. Kauai, the Garden Island, is the perfect place to do just that.

Here are some reasons why you should consider visiting Kauai for your next island vacation…

Natural Beauty

The landscape of Kauai is one of the most untamed and natural of the Hawaiian islands, aside from Lana’i and Moloka’i. Here you’ll find sandy beaches, imposing mountains, and lush tropical rainforests at every turn. There are numerous luxurious places to rest your weary head at the end of the day. Consider Koloa Landing Resort in Poipu for that truly “Hawaiian” experience you are dreaming of.

Waimea Canyon

Often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea canyon shouldn’t be missed on any visit to Kauai. Here you’ll find towering peaks, lush waterfalls, and stunning vegetation nestled amongst the red rocks. For the best views, make the effort to get to the canyon’s lookout point for a spectacular view.  Be sure to check out the many hikes in the area, including the Cliff Trail which takes you to the 800-foot Waipoo Falls.

Beautiful Beaches

Adding beaches to your itinerary is obvious, and Kauai does not disappoint in this regard. Kauai is famous for its many stunning beaches along its rugged coastline, all with pristine waters for swimming. The clear water reveals the coral reefs, making them ideal for snorkeling. The beaches are often extremely peaceful and uncrowded, giving you that splendid feeling of isolation.

The beaches also offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Hanalei Bay is a popular surfing destination for both more experienced surfers and beginners alike. Poipu on the South West part of the island also has beaches that are perfect for young families.

Hiking Trails

Kauai offers trails for all fitness levels and hikers with different levels of experience. Choose between the NaPali coastline, where you can trek along the ridge trails that offer unbeatable views of the vibrantly green vegetation of the island. Alternatively, you can hike the famous Waimea Canyon trail if you are up for more of a challenge.

Mount Waialeale

Mount Waialeale is a gigantic crater and arguably one of the wettest places on earth. It’s undeniably the beating heart of the island and well worth a visit. While it is hard to reach, the crater is sure to provide you with an unforgettable experience, and you’re unlikely to regret the effort in getting there (should you make it!) The weather plays a big part in whether or not this is possible, so check with a tour guide before heading out.

Fascinating History

Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands and has the geology to back it up. Consider a visit to the Makauwahi Cave, a large sinkhole replete with fossils and other proof of its antiquity. Excavators of the caves have found bones of long-extinct animals, pollen from long-extinct plants, and evidence of ancient hurricanes and tsunamis.

In conclusion…

Choosing where to go and what to do on your vacation to Hawaii can be a daunting task. With so much beauty and so many activities to choose, you may not know where to start. Each island is worth exploring, as each has its own unique character and appeal. However, with its reputation as the Garden Island, and being relatively less developed than some of the other major islands, Kauai is a great choice.

The awe-inspiring natural beauty of the island is sure to entrance you, as are its pristine beaches with views of the surrounding rugged cliffs. In Kauai, you can choose a relaxed, laid-back vacation, or a more active one that includes surfing and hiking. There’s no denying that Kauai has something for everyone.
