The beautiful island of Mauritius has been on my bucket list for quite some time now. How can anyone resist the perfect weather, white sand beaches and crystal blue lagoons? When I found out that Shangri-La has a property there, I knew that was where I had to stay. Their contemporary design and elegant hotels around the world never disappoint, and the Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spa was certainly no exception.

The resort offers an unrivaled standard of privacy thanks to its perfect location along the untouched eastern coast of the island. The peaceful and uncrowded world-class beaches can be found at the Trou d’Eau Bay. From the moment I arrived, I felt transported to my very own personal paradise. With beautiful greenery and thoughtful design throughout this state-of-the-art hotel, I really appreciated how they always incorporated some island touches. From the grand lobby to the fashionable restaurants and spa, we were surrounded by gorgeous views of the sparkling, turquoise waters.

Accommodations
My Frangipani Junior Suite offered uninterrupted ocean views. My suite is named after a tropical flower found on the island, one of the many nice touches you will discover at this five-star Shangri-La resort. We had welcome drinks waiting for us which is always a nice surprise. I absolutely loved how my king bed faced the large bay windows showing off the blue Indian Ocean, allowing me to wake up to that stunning sight every morning. I also appreciated the ample seating space with a stylish couch, just one of the many contemporary furnishings that fit in perfectly with the island-chic interior design.

The bathroom was absolutely massive with a freestanding marble tub right in the center, as well as a separate shower area. The best of both worlds! It had two vanity areas on either side of the marble tub, plus closets on opposite ends of the room.

Our other room, also located in the Frangipani wing, was the Deluxe Suite which came with two queen-size beds.

The resort offers 200 rooms and suites, as well as three exclusive villas which provide guests with an even more personalized sanctuary. No matter where you are staying, every room is located on the beautiful beachfront!

I had the pleasure of staying in the Frangipani Wing where guests are offered an exceptional level of service, as well as an exclusive swimming pool for adults-only and in-room check-in by a Shangri-La Specialist. You feel very well taken care of and spoiled here, as you should be on any luxury vacation!

Dining Options
As a guest in a Frangipani Suite, I was also treated to a daily à la carte breakfast at Republik Beach Club & Grill, as well as daily sunset cocktails. What more could you possibly want?!

The Republik Beach Club & Grill is worth visiting for any meal, as it serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine. However, the best part of the restaurant is their panoramic beachfront dining. Located on the exclusive Frangipani islet, this unique beach side restaurant offers breathtaking views of the Trou d’Eau Douce Bay. I really enjoyed starting my days off every morning here at breakfast. If you go in the evenings, you will find a trendy bar serving innovate cocktails, as well as live music, theme nights, and performances by local and international DJs!

Along with Republik, Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort offers four restaurants in total which feature the finest Western and Asian dishes. During my stay, I also got to enjoy their Indian Restaurant – Safran. Here you can taste exotic spices from India while overlooking Hibiscus Bay. Along with authentic Indian dishes, they also serve Mauritian cuisines, a fun and creative fusion. We enjoyed everything internationally acclaimed Chef Ramesh Bundi had to offer.

Another delightful restaurant on the property was their specialized Japanese restaurant called Kushi. It will transport you to the Far East with a red, Geisha-inspired design and an impressive centerpiece made of hundreds of Geisha combs. It has a sushi bar manned by a master sushi chef and offers Wagyu beef menus and a wide variety of sake and cocktails. You can also enjoy a unique Yakiniku experience that includes a built-in grill at each table, and a traditional Omakase set menu offering chef ’s specials, depending on fresh fish arrivals. I had the delicious salmon and a California roll for a starter.

In the evenings, you can treat yourself to live jazz and blues music with a cocktails at the Sega Bar. Sega is a rum and Tiki bar that offers Mauritian-inspired beverages, a unique smoked cocktail menu, and a signature “Shangri-La Rum Oak” which is an eight-year-old rum that can be personalized to your taste.

While I love lounging by the pool with a great book or tanning on the sandy beaches, sometimes you crave more adventure and water fun! Thankfully, the Shangri-La offers an incredible array of activities for its guests. Everyone can enjoy complimentary kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, water skiing, and sailing… just to name a few! If that isn’t enough for you, the Health Center can help you break a sweat with their special programs for swimming, aquatic exercise, tennis, and golf.

The golf course at Le Touessrok offers an 18-hole championship course designed by Bernhard Langer. It is separate from the mainland resort, next to a shimmering turquoise lagoon and is one of the world’s finest!

After some fun in the sun, I suggest unwinding at Chi, the resort’s tranquil spa. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to enjoy one of their holistic wellness treatments but I visited their hair salon which was a nice treat.

I found it incredibly hard to leave the resort but I know I will return one day, next time with the whole family! The beauty of the Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spa in Mauritius will captivate anyone who visits. From the impeccable service to the stunning natural landscape, this luxurious property is the perfect place to celebrate any special occasion, or to simply escape the winter blues!
Disclosure: I was a guest of the Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, and all opinions here are my own.
