*As of today, April 1, 2022, Singapore is open again for tourism to all vaccinated travelers and quarantining is no longer required. This post was originally written in early 2020, which is why no masks are being worn.*

I had the pleasure of flying Singapore Airlines for the first time from New York City to their beautiful hub at the Singapore Changi Airport. When I’m flying somewhere so far away, I always try and treat myself to the most comfortable seats to make the journey easier. Singapore Airlines are very well known for their incredible First Class Suites, and they certainly did not disappoint.

This is so much more than just an airplane seat. My First Class Suites can not only turn into a bedroom at night, but during the day I can work like I’m in an office, or dine with my travel companion as if we are in a restaurant. Singapore Airlines really thought about how the space can be luxurious, yet comfortable and functional.

The warm tones in the First Class Suites cabin were very welcoming, along with the fabulous crew who went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my flight. For example, I was greeted with a welcome drink and enjoyed premium Dom Perignon Champagne. They were there to call on at anytime, even if you want breakfast in bed at 3 am. Or, if you prefer quiet and to be left alone, they respect that as well. I love the personal touches such as remembering your favorite drink and always having it ready. Or, placing a teddy bear on your bed when it’s time to sleep.

The First Class Suites themselves are individual cabins that were designed by French luxury yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste. The cream and brown colors, combined with the accented leather and wood help to create a cozy atmosphere. Each cabin gives you plenty of private space, thanks to a sliding door and window blinds. The leather armchairs are upholstered in high-quality full grain leather from Aeristo, with beautiful diamond stitching. Being over 35 inches wide, this was one of the most spacious airplane seats I’ve ever experienced!

During the daylight hours, you can transform your large table area into a work space or dining space with room for someone to sit right across from you. Speaking of dining, the food on board is of the highest quality, and created by notable chefs from Singapore Airline’s International Culinary Panel. They want you to feel as if you’re in a restaurant with full table service, and wines to match the food and altitude.

There is an option to ‘Book the Cook’ and reserve your main course up to 24 hours before you fly. And, thankfully, there is such a wide selection to choose from. Imagine anything from a Rack of Lamb to Lobster Thermidor. WHAT DID YOU EAT THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY? ANY FAVORITES? To make it even more special, these delicious dishes are served on bone china by Wedgwood, specially designed for Singapore Airlines.

I was more than impressed with the KrisWorld inflight entertainment options on my 24-inch HD-enabled personal LCD television. They also give you Bose noise-cancelling headphones which really help you to disconnect from airplane distractions. There’s literally thousands of entertainment options to choose from, including movies (new and old), television shows, music, games, and apps. I could select whatever I wanted from my video touchscreen handset. It was very easy to navigate and I was thankful to have so many options to pass the time.

When it’s time for bed, I loved having the flight attendants do a turn down service for me. They transformed my space into a fully-flat bed. My seat extended to 80 inches, which really helps give you greater sleeping comfort. They provide extra soft bedding, with a plush duvet and pillows. You are also given an amenity kit by Lalique to help you unwind for the night, and also freshen up when you awake.

Experiencing the First Class Suites on Singapore Airlines was a life changing travel experience. They absolutely spoiled me on board with all the comforts I could imagine, plus incredible food and entertainment. For a long haul flight like this, it was definitely worth the splurge. I was so well rested throughout my journey, that it truly helped to put me in vacation mode. Five-stars all around, and an amazing way to start my trip to Singapore!
