My stay in Iceland was an experience unlike most of my trips to luxury destinations. I stayed in the country’s largest city and capital, Reykjavík, at the Alda Hotel Reykjavík located off of the main shopping street, Laugavegur. A boutique-style hotel, the Alda Hotel Reykjavík is exactly what I would recommend for any traveler’s first time in Iceland, as this was mine and I loved every minute of it!
Located in the middle of the city, the Alda Hotel Reykjavík offers a quiet retreat from some of the busier sections of the area while still being in an ideal location to explore.
The Alda Hotel Reykjavík offers a service to guests that I have never seen before: smartphones. Instead of stationary in-room phones, guests can take an Android operated smartphone during their stay to help them roam about the city. These phones come equipped with apps to give travelers directions, restaurant recommendations, and bookings for day tours. I thought this was such a nice touch.
There are 88 rooms available, all styled in the coveted Icelandic design that I personally adore. Guests can pick from singles, doubles, “Attic” rooms, and suites. All rooms have the classic amenities, free WIFI, and Egyptian bed sheets. Attic rooms are located on the 4thfloor and provide guests with a beautiful view of Reykjavík, while the Alda Attic rooms cover views of the North Atlantic Ocean and the mountains. I stayed in the Alda Attic Ocean View room, where I could enjoy a gorgeous view from the balcony. There are also Family rooms available for those traveling with young ones and suites for those looking to experience the crème de la crème of what the Alda Hotel Reykjavík has to offer.
The bathroom was very roomy, bright, and equipped with all the amenities you would need for an enjoyable stay. The rain shower was incredible. I also enjoyed the generous counter space for all my belongings.
Dining at the Alda
The hotel offers guest breakfast between 7:00 and 10:00 AM with a hot and cold buffet selection that includes waffles, eggs, sausages, and more. There is a convenient early breakfast option for early risers on the go: just let the front desk know in advance, and they will prepare a bag containing a sandwich and other snacks as well as juice and your choice of coffee or tea.
For dinner, we eat at the Brass Kitchen & Bar which is located right off the lobby area of the Alda Hotel on Laugarvegi. It’s a great place for delicious bites and tasty drinks.
Additionally, the hotel provides information and options for many of the exciting day tours available to explore Reykjavík and the surrounding area. From the knowledgable front desk staff, to the handy smartphone provided to every guest, you will be in very good hands!
My Icelandic adventure was above and beyond what I expected. I enjoyed top-notch service and comfort at the Alda Hotel Reykjavík and would not hesitate to stay there again on my next trip to Iceland!
