5 Things You Need to Do Before Your Round-the-World Trip

Before you go traveling across the globe, it is vital that you research and thoroughly plan beforehand so you can be confident and prepared for your journey. Here are five things you need to do before your round-the-world trip.

Working During The Trip

The first thing you will need to consider before embarking on a round-the-world trip is whether you will need to work whilst you are away. It is important that you take time to weigh up the financial cost of the trip and whether the money you have saved will be enough to last you throughout the duration of your trip. Many countries offer a working holiday visa, so make sure you investigate and apply for a visa before you travel, as the entire process can take a considerable amount of time.

Although you may be spending most of your days in major cities across the globe, there will be times when you veer slightly off track and end up in places much more remote and isolated. For example, if you were to visit a jungle region in southeast Asia, you will need to be taking malaria tablets beforehand, as well as having shots for yellow fever and other potential illnesses. Before you begin your trip, make sure you are aware of any high-risk areas, so you can take appropriate action and get the right vaccinations for your trip.

Where to Go

With so many countries to explore, it can be hard to know where to start and exactly where to go. Firstly, think of the type of trip you want to embark on. Every country will have a completely different culture and climate, so you will need to work out what sort of trip will benefit you the most. Also, flight costs can be extremely high from different cities and countries, so bear this in mind before your travels.

What to Pack

Unlike a normal vacation, your trip around the world will last much longer, so you will need to spend time deciding on what essentials you want to bring with you, as well as any luxury or sentimental items. For example, if you are wanting to bring hair growth products with you, there are companies like Scalp Med who provide specialist products that can give you up to four months’ worth of usage. You may also need to take ample supplies of prescription medication, so plan this in advance.

Speaking to other travelers in the same position as you, or those who have already completed a round-the-world trip could be a great idea as you can gain a firsthand insight into how to get the most out of your experience. There are many specialist travel forums online that you can visit where you can engage with a wide range of people who will be able to answer any questions you may have about your trip.

It is vital that you thoroughly plan well in advance, so you can be well prepared and ready for your trip. Knowing the right tips and tricks will put you in good stead before your journey and will help eliminate any worries or fears you may have.

Spot on! This falls under research, but I also think connecting with others via social media (who live in the places you are to visit) can provide a very insightful travel experience. I have done it myself, many of times, especially through the ol’ platform couch surfers, which I don’t think many folks use as much anymore since AirBnB came about.

Great tips! I knew about vaccinations but never thought about medications and the like. Least now I know!

Prescriptions are a huge thing for us. My husband has one he takes for anxiety and PTSD which can sometimes make it difficult for us to travel for extended periods of time. That was definitely a great thing to remind people to think about.

Gosh. I just wish I could travel the whole world. I’m stuck doing one 1-2 week trip at a time. BUT I still consider myself lucky 🙂

Thanks for the tips Carmen! Working during a trip isn’t something which I’ve considered in the past, but certainly is a something I’ll consider in the future.
