If you want to experience the best of Bali’s hospitality and luxury, a stay at the five-star Viceroy Bali is a must. This resort is family owned and operated which is quite rate for resorts in Bali. Thanks to their immaculate villas offering absolute privacy, this is the place to stay for honeymooners or any couples looking for a romantic destination.
The Viceroy Bali overlooks Bali’s famous Petanu Valley, also known as the Valley of the Kings. This lush jungle formerly housed Balinese aristocracy. Now you can enjoy a royal experience with their eye-catching infinity pool, helipad, two stylish restaurants, and a posh spa. Warning: you will never want to leave!
Checking into the Viceroy Bali
Upon arrival, we were presented with that famous Balinese hospitality: an abundance of smiles, flower garlands, and delicious welcome drinks. This is the perfect way to kickstart a relaxing vacation vibe.
We learned that the resort is situated on the sunrise side of a lush hillside that’s only three miles from sights such as the sacred Ubud Monkey Forest and Royal Palace. Cultural sights like these can be easily reached with a free shuttle service for Viceroy Bali guests. It is another twenty-tour miles to the famous rice fields and quaint villages, along with the Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Accommodations
The first two nights, out of our three-night stay, were spent in a beautiful Pool Suite. The entire property offers 25 luxury villas, nestled in the Balinese jungle. No matter what room you stay in, you’ll enjoy incredible inclusions like your own private pool, daily breakfast, 24 hour room service, an evening turn down service and so much more.
Our Pool Suite came with a heated plunge pool which we absolutely loved using. These suites are elegant yet discreet, with a modern, open floor plan space that is ideal for couples wanting a romantic haven. Both the bedroom and lounge were very spacious and included luxurious amenities such as high speed internet, Bower & Wilkins speaker, espresso coffee machines with pods, and a 49” flat screen television with Satellite channels.
A unique aspect was the semi-outdoor marble bathroom which allowed us to effortlessly step into the heated plunge pool. I also loved the daybed and covered deck which was the perfect space to take in the spectacular jungle views, while also being protected from the elements.
For our last 24 hours at the Viceroy Bali, we were upgraded to a fabulous Deluxe Terrace Villa which we enjoyed every minute in. Waking up to stunning greenery and expansive valley views was certainly memorable.
Similar to our pool suite, the bedroom is integrated with a generous living space and large marble bathroom with luxury amenities. I particularly loved the powerful rain shower and twin vanities.
My absolute favorite part of our villa was the impressive heated infinity edge pool. We felt transported to another culture and time with the alang alang grass thatched ceiling and Balinese artifacts throughout the villa. The entire outdoor space is incredible, with a traditional balé bungalow that rests over the pool and looks out to the jungle vista. I enjoyed eating breakfast here and curling up with a good book.
Dining Options at the Viceroy
CasCades Restaurant is the beating heart of Viceroy Bali, and is recognized as one for he top Bali restaurants. The idyllic setting offers guests all-day dining options, featuring both Indonesian and European cuisine from a talented Belgian chef. À la carte breakfast choices, which are included with your room, consist of seasonal tropical fruit salads, Belgian waffles, salmon scrambled eggs and Mediterranean ratatouille.
The breakfast was delicious, and they provide you with fresh fruit and smoothies each day which were my go-to. Quality is their highest priority and they source most of their product from their own greenhouse and local organic farmers. For dinner, there are selections such as foie gras, gado gado (Balinese vegetable salad) with quail eggs and bebek betutu (Balinese spiced confit duck leg).
CasCades’ circular bar appears to float over the valley, so pre-dinner drinks before sunset are a must. It feels as if you’re sitting on the edge of the world. In the evenings, this space transforms into an elegant atmosphere with individual romantic table settings, and a piano bar underneath the stunning grass and bamboo thatched roof.
Once a week, CasCades offers a 1-hour traditional Balinese dance performance in the evenings while you’re enjoying dinner and drinks! We were lucky to be able to watch one of these performances, and absolutely loved it.
Their second restaurant, Apéritif, offers a unique fine-dining experience which focuses on contemporary global cuisine and Indonesian specialties. We enjoyed a memorable 8-course dégustation menu amongst a beautiful, colonial 1920s interior design setting. Without a doubt, this was the most incredible meal I enjoyed while exploring Bali.
Our evening began with a complimentary pre-dinner apéritif and canapés at the Bar, a fun spot that evokes a buzzing Roaring Twenties atmosphere. All of their high-grade produce is sourced globally, locally, and from the Apéritif greenhouse. We were off to a great start and immediately knew we were in for a real treat.
I loved every aspect of this meal, from the personal inspirations of Executive Chef Nic Vanderbeeken, to the beautiful crockery, cutlery and glamorous old world décor. I was really impressed at how well the sommelier and chef collaborated together on some tricky dishes, working with matching aspects of the dish to make it a perfect experience.
With over 180 different labels of wine in the cellar, there is no shortage of brilliant wine pairings for a delicious degustation. We enjoyed edible art that evening, each dish bursting with flavor, and I would return in a heartbeat!
Activities and Adventures
It is very easy to achieve total relaxation and wellbeing during your vacation at the Viceroy Bali. The Lembah Bali Spa is perfectly perched atop Bali’s Valley of the King’s. This tranquil setting is the perfect place to enjoy holistic health and well-being. Their treatments combine Western knowledge and traditional Balinese wellness techniques. This two-story spa includes a steam room, hot tub, lounge area, valley views, and a fantastic spa menu.
As far as other activities on-site, yoga is offered in any of the garden locations or inside your own villa. They have a yoga master on standby for private sessions. For foodies, you can enjoy a cooking class with a professional teacher who will introduce you to Indonesia’s unique food culture. You’ll start your class off with a visit to a local market, and then you will create seven traditional dishes using those ingredients.
For those that want to step outside of the resort, the concierge can help you organize an incredible variety of excursions: cycling tours, village tours, helicopter tours, and visits to the Royal Palace, local parks, markets, museums, a coffee plantation, or even monkey forest!
The Viceroy Bali Resort is absolute paradise for any traveler, but especially for couples who are looking for privacy, relaxation, and the best luxury that Bali has to offer.

July 30, 2019 at 4:59 amI always say, I think I’m the only Australian that hasn’t been to Bali! Its not that I don’t want to, I do its just we never seem to commit to it. Kuta is definitely not on my list but when we do visit Bali, Ubud will definitely be at the top of the list. In fact I think Ubud will be perfect for me as I do love a little bit of lux!

July 31, 2019 at 7:03 pmI was sold with the private pool. This place exudes luxury and relaxation. I would definitely take advantage of the on-site yoga and would explore the surrounding areas as well. But I would find it so hard to leave as the villa itself looks like a place I would never want to leave!
