How do you get out of the airport when you’re traveling? In planning, we spend a lot of time picking destinations, hotels, and arranging flights. Figuring out the transfers to and from the airports often seems like just one more complicated thing to figure out. On occasion we grab a cab or a Uber (unless you’re in Ft Lauderdale where they were just banned!!!), but that can be really hit or miss in different airports. So I’ve decided to skip the lines and avoid the uncertainty. I now travel in style with Blacklane Limousine.
On my last trip to Europe, I was traveling by myself and came across Blacklane a limousine service. They provide private limousine and chauffeur services in 180 cities around the world, and luckily Barcelona was one of them!
You can hire Blacklane limousine services to get you from one point to another, with airport pick-ups being the most common, or use their limousine services by the hour if you want a night in the town and don’t want to drive. One of the things I like about the service is that all costs are shown up front, and you know what you’re paying for before you agree to it.
You can access their desktop website or make the booking on your Android or iPhone smartphone through their Blacklane app.
BOOKING MY RIDE
The booking system is pretty easy to use. First you need to set up an initial account, and enter your payment (credit card number).
Next, you select whether you want to book a one way or hourly ride. Since, I wanted to be picked up at the airport in Barcelona I selected the “one way”. Under the “From” I entered “Barcelona” and a dropdown box appeared giving me several options to choose from. Make sure you choose the right one. In my case is was (BCN). Then I went to the “To” box and entered my hotel. Once again a dropdown box appeared and I had the option to choose the correct hotel. You enter you pickup date and time and hit “Book A Ride“.
ENTER YOUR PICKUP/DROP OFF LOCATION, DATE AND TIME
Choosing the car you want is easy, it all depends on how many passengers you are traveling with and pieces of luggage. Since I was traveling alone, I went with the Business Class Mercedes which was the least expensive. They offer three classes (Business Class, Business Van, First Class)
I entered my Airline Name and Flight Number. The text on the pick-up sign, which was my last name. They also give you a box for special request like a (child car seat).
The next screen shows all the details that you entered, and once you confirm it charges your credit card.
On the day of my trip, I received an email to tell me that my driver was on his way, along with his contact details. Once I landed I received a text message letting me know that my driver was waiting for me. After I picked up my luggage, I walked out to the crowds of people waiting for passengers to arrive and found my driver waiting patiently for me with my last name on a sign. He immedately helped me with my luggage and escorted me to the car. Once we arrived at the car, he loaded my luggage, opened my door and asked me if I wanted a bottle of water for the trip.
My car was a black Mercedes sedan, and a really comfortable car, everything you expect from a premium luxury service. Fancy leather seats, spacious, quiet and a smooth drive.
My driver was very pleasant to talk to, and even pointed out some of the sites along the way on my 30 minute journey from the airport to my hotel. Once we arrived at my hotel he helped me unload my luggage.
After the ride, you get a chance to offer feedback and rate your driver and ride (mine got 5 stars each of course).
I have used Blacklane services now on multiple occasions throughout my travels in Europe. Blacklane is a German company but they work with local limousine services so as to provide familiar localized service.
Disclaimer: Blacklane provided me with a complimentary ride, but these are my own opinions.
