Safaris and Beyond: A Honeymooners Guide to Kenya

LIFESTYLE, LUXURY AFRICAN DESTINATIONS, TRAVEL

While finding the right life partner is essential it is also important that you both make commitments on how you two want to spend the rest of your life. When you are done with your wedding ceremonies you need to focus on your honeymoon trip. A honeymoon is a great way to solidify the foundation of your lifelong commitment. Hence, you need to plan it wisely because you want to have all the fun but you also want to take some time to relax and unwind and live those quality moments that you will cherish for decades to come.

Most couples today prefer to head to exotic beach locations where they can bask in the sun and put their feet up and enjoy the turquoise blue waters. However, if you and your partner are more into nature and wildlife you can make plans for a honeymoon in Kenya. If you are not much of a planner you can always hire the best tour operators that can offer you the itinerary to ensure that you can focus more on your priorities. However, when you are planning a honeymoon trip to Kenya you need to focus on what you two want and how you can make this trip the most memorable trip of your lifetime.

Plan It Out Well

A honeymoon trip to Kenya is certainly quite different from the regular wildlife tours that you do. Planning your honeymoon trip at the last moment isn’t going to work well because you are already exhausted with all the wedding nitty-gritty of arranging and organizing a wedding event. You should plan your honeymoon trip at least a few months earlier to help you decide how long you want the trip to be and what places you want to cover. Also, many people believe that a Kenya trip is expensive, but that depends on how you plan it. You may want to choose a local tour operator that can offer you custom packages to help you manage your cost. Also, you need to know that you have all the necessary papers and documents to show up on your arrival including proof of yellow fever vaccination. This will help you avoid any last-minute discrepancies as you head for your honeymoon trip.

Timing is Everything

Also, you would want to know the weather conditions before you decide when to visit Kenya for a honeymoon trip. Visiting Kenya from July to September ensures that you can make the most of the dry weather. With the long rain season over, you would have plenty of grass and greenery and plenty of action to witness including The Great Migration. However, as you reach the months of October to December you can witness short spells of rain. By this time of the year, the tourist crowd is gone and you can take advantage of the offers you can find. The climate will be hot along with short spells of rain in January and February as well. However, March brings the long rain season which continues until the start of June. Hence, March to May is a wet season which you should avoid most if you are looking for more activities.

Choose Accommodation Wisely

Kenya, being among the top countries for wildlife safaris has no shortage of accommodations. Hence, you need to decide what type of accommodation is ideal for your honeymoon trip. If you prefer a quiet relaxing honeymoon experience you would want to look for accommodations near Lake Naivasha which offers you a great landscape. Here you can settle down and unwind and spend quality time with your partner overlooking flamingos drift by. However, if you are looking for some adventure you can look for locations around Masai Mara National Reserve. If you are staying in Nairobi you can stay at the Giraffe Manor. Similarly, if you prefer some beach locations you can look for private accommodations near Diani Beach. Similarly, you can decide the level of luxury and privacy you want to add to your honeymoon experience.

Plan Your Experiences

When you are planning your honeymoon in Kenya you also need to focus on what experiences you want to choose. This is essential because you want to optimize the time you have. If you are looking for some quiet private time with your loved one you can explore places near Lamu or just go for snorkelling and scuba diving activities at Watamu Marine National Park. You can also choose to take a driving tour around Lake Naivasha where you can find plenty of impalas, buffaloes, zebras, hippos and even plenty of birds like flamingos flying around. If you prefer being close to animals you can head for Nairobi Safari Walk or explore the Masai Mara National Reserve and Amboseli National Park. You can also look out for some hot air ballooning and horse riding activities that would allow you to explore Kenya differently. You can also go golfing with the animals in Kenya if you want something unique.

Pack Right

Honeymoon today isn’t just about spending time together but also posting incredible pictures on your social media to keep your loved ones updated and amazed. For this, you would need some lovely clothing that can help you look great. However, packing in a lot can make your honeymoon tiring and therefore you need to pack right for your safari trip. If you are staying at a luxury accommodation the laundry will be done daily so you can keep your clothing limited. Avoid choosing bright colours that can distract animals. While white sounds very romantic it can get dusty and therefore some neutral khaki and olive green colours would be the best option. Also, focus on layering to manage your attire as per the changing temperature during morning, afternoon and evening hours. You would also want to pack the right footwear to keep you comfortable even when you are out for an entire day. However, don’t pack a lot of equipment and gear to make your luggage heavy.

Focus on Celebration

Being in Kenya surrounded by lush greenery and wilderness can kick in the enthusiasm and excitement in you to explore more places. However, you also need to focus on the celebration part. Couples on their honeymoon trip would want to spend more quality time together and have moments of privacy and togetherness. Hence, you would want to look out for additional activities where you can have a bubble bath together overlooking the savannah, have a private wine tasting, learn how to cook a local cuisine together or just feed the giraffes through your room window. This would provide you with ample time with your partner elevating your honeymoon experience. You can always ask your tour operator to provide you with local guides or help you organize these events.
