Plan a Romantic Outdoors Getaway in Golden, British Columbia

You and your significant other love adventuring in the great outdoors, so when it comes to planning a vacation, your mind automatically goes to the next natural wonder on your wish list. What happens, though, when in addition to hiking and biking and communing with nature, you want to add a little romance to your getaway?

Romance is tough to come by when you’re sleeping in a tent, not showering and sharing freeze-dried meals. A romantic, outdoorsy trip is possible with a little bit of planning though. Start with the perfect location: Golden, British Columbia.

Visit Golden, BC

In a word: beauty. Golden sits within the beautiful Canadian Rockies and offers year-round outdoor activities including river rafting, mountain biking and hiking in the summer; cross-country and downhill skiing and snowboarding in the winter.

Golden is right off the Trans-Canada Highway, making it easily accessible from almost anywhere. The small mountain town makes a perfect home base for adventurers to return to after a long day exploring, with excellent dining and picturesque shops lining the downtown streets.

Stay in Upscale Accommodations

Ditch your usual tent and campfire plan and amp up the romance with a stay in a mountainside condo. In Golden, the obvious choice is Kicking Horse Lodging. It’s your one-stop shop for an array of different mountain accommodations, offering everything for both romance and nature. These range from suites at Glacier Mountaineer Lodge in the heart of the resort, to one- or two-bedroom suites in the Palliser Lodge offering ski-in/ski-out access, to more secluded on-mountain townhomes.

For your adventurous side, there is so much to do within the resort, like visiting the on-site Grizzly Bear Refuge, biking in the lift-accessible mountain bike park or taking the gondola up to the mountaintop and hiking along breathtaking ridge lines in the summer. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and ice skating are available in the winter. Stay in Golden, or drive to one of the six national parks nearby (Banff, Glacier, Jasper, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Yoho) for the ultimate day of nature, then return to a warm shower and a fireplace.

Plan a Romantic Picnic

There is nothing more romantic than a picnic with a spectacular view. Grab the fixings for lunch and a bottle of wine and head out to enjoy the fresh air. Need ideas for packing your picnic basket? It’s only two miles and is a picturesque and romantic place to enjoy your lunch.

Have a Fancy Dinner Out

On a typical outdoor vacation, you’d end your day with a quick meal made in one pot over the campfire and dive into your sleeping bag to warm up, but this is a romantic getaway. End your day in Golden with your love, dining at a TripAdvisor-recommended restaurant. The best news is you won’t have to do the dishes afterwards.

Golden is one of those places that many of us have stopped at along Highway 1 in BC. But I’ve never actually explored the destination in the light you have shown us. We’ve always just thought of it as a stopover place. Next time, I’ll be sure to give it a closer look.
