When it comes to choosing a luxury hotel for my next vacation, I always take in to account their dining options. I enjoy hotels that offer unique, award-winning, or farm-to-table restaurants. Some hotels go a step further and even produce their own beer or liquor. Here are some fabulous properties around North & Central America that do just that!
Hops & Hot Springs in Rainforest / Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa
Spread across 900 acres of lush rainforest near the base of Costa Rica’s Arenal Volcano, Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa features hot springs and cascading waterfalls naturally heated by the volcano’s magma and outdoor spa bungalows where treatments are rendered to the sounds of rushing streams and local wildlife. In response to a growing craft beer scene in Costa Rica, the property has partnered with a local brewery called 5inco Amigos Cervecería to create two proprietary craft beers unique to the resort. The ‘IPAva’ brew is a refreshing IPA with 5.2% ABV, made with wild flavors and tropical aromas characteristic of the rainforest and resort’s thermal springs. It’s name pays homage to a local wild bird called the pava. The beer has been so popular the resort created a second beer, ‘Kapi Kapi’, which is an indigenous Costa Rican term meaning welcome.
Deep Blue Brewing on Florida’s West Coast / Sandpearl Resort, Opal Sands Resort, Lido Beach Resort
The Sea Dog Brewery in Clearwater Beach, Florida, gathered a small team to create Deep Blue Brewing, a line of craft beers and IPAs specially made for OPAL Hotels. The result? Delicious, Florida-inspired craft beers. Exclusively available at select properties are the OPAL Tangerine Wheat Beer and the OPAL IPA. The OPAL Tangerine Wheat Beer delivers a refreshing wheat malt flavor with a splash of tangerine, while the OPAL IPA is a medium body IPA perfectly blended with hints of citrus. These brews can be found at Sandpearl Resort, Opal Sands Resort, and Lido Beach Resort.
Experts Only Tequila in Mexico / Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa
At the epicenter of tequila culture you’ll find Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa — one of the few resorts in the world that grows its own agave azul on site and produces a proprietary brand of tequila, CasaMagna. The resort’s in-house Tequila Sommelier leads weekly tasting classes for guests as part of the “Secretos de la Familia” program to help increase their knowledge of and appreciation for the most famous product of the resort’s home State of Jalisco: Tequila. Guests can also visit the new Ceviche & Tequila Bar where more than 180 different tequilas and 12 kinds of draft beer can be enjoyed along with the beautiful ocean views.
Gin Where You’d Never Expect It (Ohio!) / AC Hotel Columbus Dublin
A visit to VASO on the rooftop of the newly opened AC Hotel Columbus Dublin will not disappoint with its Spanish-inspired menu, hand-crafted cocktails, and panoramic views of the Scioto River – unlike anything else in the Columbus area. This rooftop hotspot offers something even more unique than its views with a specially distilled gin. To complement VASO’s signature cocktails, the restaurant team worked with Watershed Distillery to curate a version of their Four Peel Gin, exclusively for use at the hotel. Light and smooth-bodied, the Four Peel Gin uses Sevilla oranges and Meyer lemons to put a twist on its traditional version of the spirit. Foodista called it a serious contender for the best gin in America…
Insider Lager / W Fort Lauderdale
Always going above and beyond, the talent at W Fort Lauderdale has teamed up with Concrete Beach Brewery in Wynwood, Miami to create Insider, a custom lager for the 517-room property. This Vienna-Style lager is exclusively sold in the heart of the hotel, Living Room, and serves as a quintessential brew to sip on while enjoying South Florida’s year-round warm weather. The beer pours brightly, with a bold sunburst-orange hue and foamy white head, while the malt flavors give off a slight malty sweetness and crisp finish. The name itself, Insider, is a play off of the property’s Insiders, the brand’s take on the traditional concierge.

December 7, 2018 at 1:20 amSuch a clever idea to have proprietary liquor at a resort! I’m especially intrigued by the Marriott in Puerto Vallarta that not only makes its own tequila but grows the agave to make it with!

The Marriott in Purerto Vallarta looks interesting. I have been to W in Fort Lauderdale but I never thought about trying their lager. Definitely will give it a try next time when I am in Maimi
