Although I had already visited Southern Spain on several occasions, believe it or not, this was my first time in beautiful Seville, or as we say in Spanish, Sevilla. Now I must admit that it has easily become one of my favorite destinations in Andalusia. The city is world-renowned for its religious Easter festivities (Semana Santa), but with mild temperatures and sunny days, it is also a fantastic winter destination. During our recent trip to Seville we stayed at a historic boutique hotel that stole our hearts from day one: Hotel Casa 1800.

A Recall of Seville’s Golden Age
Hotel Casa 1800 is a luxurious boutique hotel perfectly located in the center of Seville, just a few steps away from Seville’s Cathedral and famous bell tower La Giralda. This historic property dates back to the mid-19th century, the Golden Age of Seville! The premises were built in 1864 and preserve their original splendor thanks to the restoration efforts that were carried out about 6 years ago.
Every single corner is full of details at Hotel Casa 1800! I loved the water fountain in the lobby, the exposed brick walls and the Moorish patterned gates. The old inner courtyard with elegant chandeliers, classic furniture, timber beams and wooden banisters were one of my two favorite spots in this hotel (you can read more about the other one below). In fact, this patio, in the purest Andalusian style, revives the historical essence of the hotel and brings you back in time.
Thoughful and Luxurious Accommodation
Our home-away-from-home for three days was a Deluxe Premium Room which featured a separate living room with plenty of space to spread out. On this occasion we were traveling with our little boy so we were happy to also have enough room for a baby cot in the bedroom. It was very kind of them to provide us with one and our baby slept as comfortably in his crib as we did in our queen size bed. Many times luxury hotels are not family friendly – but this was certainly not the case here!
In no time we were settled into our room, ready to enjoy a welcome aperitif with Spanish delicacies and champagne. Additionally, the minibar was fully stocked and we had a wide variety of teas and coffees available.
The room was beautifully decorated in the style of the hotel with classy furniture and chandeliers. I really liked the balcony in the bedroom with a picturesque street view, and even though we were in the city center, we couldn’t hear a single sound when closing the double glazed window. The whirlpool tub in the bathroom was a huge plus for relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing!
While Deluxe Rooms are ideal in terms of spaciousness and comfort, if you would like a more exclusive stay then the Casa 1800 Junior Suite is for you. This elegant suite is a duplex, which on the main floor features a lovely large bedroom with a super king size bed and a living room; and best of all, it comes with a fabulous private terrace with a jacuzzi.

An Unbeatable View of “La Giralda”
In addition to the inner courtyard mentioned above, another favorite spot of mine at Hotel Casa 1800 is definitely their rooftop. This fabulous rooftop terrace features a swimming pool, open all year round, and with breathtaking panoramic views of the city, including the magnificent bell tower of the cathedral: La Giralda. The sunset is simply astonishing from here! We chose to enjoy the views with a glass of Jerez that Casa 1800’s staff kindly brought up for us.
An Outstanding Culinary Experience
Going down for breakfast at Casa 1800 was also a treat with a generous spread of delicious food to get you started for a fun day of exploring. We liked to sit in the patio every morning as the atmosphere was very cozy, although you can still enjoy breakfast in the comfort of your room or even go up to the rooftop terrace if the weather permits. Just let them know in advance and they will be happy to prepare the most delicious breakfast for you! They also offer complimentary afternoon snacks for all guests which is a nice touch that we absolutely appreciated.
Beyond these incredible in-hotel catering services, as soon as you set foot on the street there are countless restaurants and tapas bars; both on Calle Mateos Gago and Pasaje de Vila you will find plenty of options. The kind staff at Hotel Casa 1800 recommended El Pasaje Tapas Bar, which turned out to be a delightful discovery for a casual and refreshing dinner. You can’t miss their “lagartito” dish, it was memorable!

For a purely Sevillian experience, there is nothing like dining in an inner courtyard. At Azahar Restaurant, which has two beautiful patios and is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel, we enjoyed an exquisite gourmet menu, including five courses paired with excellent local wines. I was delighted with the olive oil tasting, the classic Andalusian “salmorejo” and the cod speciality.

During our trip, we dined at another restaurant that we highly recommend! We walked all the way to the famous Triana quarter, one of the most authentic Flamenco neighborhoods in Seville to enjoy lunch at Abades Triana Restaurant. I immediately fell in love with this restaurant’s incredible view of the city! A floor to ceiling glass window offers an idyllic panorama overlooking the Guadalquivir River with Torre del Oro and La Giralda in the background. Their Jamón Ibérico 5J 100% Bellota sliced by hand is a must-try!

Exploring Seville: the Ever-Surprising Moorish City
No matter how many times you have seen photos of Seville or been told how amazing it is, when you first see the Cathedral or the Alcazar, you are simply blown away. We spent our days exploring the narrow cobblestone streets of the center and a few spots in Triana, but our favorite place was definitely Plaza de España. Built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, this architectural masterpiece showcases a blend of Renaissance & Moorish Revival styles, reflecting Spain’s rich history and culture.

From Hotel Casa 1800 you can easily walk to this monument located in Maria Luisa Park, however, we took the chance to enjoy a horse carriage ride starting at the Cathedral, while our driver shared some very interesting facts about the city.

Final Thoughts on Seville
A trip to Seville can be even more perfect if you stay in the right accommodation. Hotel Casa 1800 not only allows you to be within walking distance from the main sights, you are also staying in a luxury boutique hotel with a remarkable heritage that provides personalized services and warm hospitality to ensure that every guest feels at home and enjoys the city to the fullest.
Hotel Casa 1800 has a sister property in Granada and soon they will be opening a new hotel in Cordoba, so we will definitely be staying with them again in the near future to continue discovering more of Andalusia. For more of our travels in Southern Spain you can explore our articles here!
