A Five-Star English Getaway at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa

Last month, I had the pleasure of indulging in an opulent escape to the heart of the English countryside – the magnificent Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa. Nestled amidst 500 acres of picturesque parkland, this five-star gem, located just eight miles from the historic city of Bath, turned out to be the ultimate sanctuary for relaxation, luxury, and unforgettable experiences.

My stay at Lucknam Park was nothing short of exceptional, from the moment I arrived at this enchanting estate to my last lingering moments in an exquisite Grand Suite. My favorite type of hotel is one that combines incredible history, unique architecture, plus luxuriously modern amenities and Lucknam Park does exactly that. Dating back to 1199 until 1688, there was a farmhouse on the current site of the main house. More specifically, the main house is a stunning Palladian style mansion dating back to Georgian times, around the late 17th and 18th century. I must admit, if you’re a fan of Bridgerton, this feels like you’ve stepped onto one of their sets but it’s even better because it’s absolutely authentic!

I’m thrilled to share my journey through the grandeur of this quintessential English country estate, highlighting my luxurious Grand Suite, the world-class spa facilities, and the culinary delight that awaited me at The Brasserie Restaurant.

My Grand Suite: A Luxurious Home Away from Home

Upon arriving at Lucknam Park, I was welcomed by the warm and attentive staff who exuded an air of genuine hospitality. After a smooth check-in, I was personally escorted to the Tower Room and shown around my Grand Suite, which would be my home for the duration of my stay. My bags were already waiting for me inside which was a nice touch, as they were whisked away while I was checking in.

The Grand Suites at Lucknam Park are a true embodiment of opulence, with a sumptuous blend of classic design and contemporary features. The spacious living room was very grand indeed with a large fireplace, perfect for cozying up with a good book on a chilly evening. The soft, neutral color palette, combined with tasteful furnishings, created a serene ambiance that made me feel instantly at ease. I appreciated the vanity desk, perfect for putting on my makeup while overlooking beautiful views of the estate. There was also a dinning table and chairs at the other end of the room facing the suite’s large windows, framed by heavy drapes and opened up to breathtaking views of the estate’s sprawling gardens and the nearby Equestrian Centre, adding a touch of English countryside charm.

The four-poster king-sized bed was my favorite feature, with plush linens, pillows, reading lamps, and elegant canopy drapes. Again, I felt like I was on a set of a period drama. But more importantly, it was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on.

The bathroom, equipped with a deep soaking tub and a separate rainfall shower, was a haven of relaxation in itself. Speaking of a rainfall shower, along with his and her sinks, there were also his and her shower heads! The heated marble floors and generous supply of luxurious toiletries were the perfect finishing touches to this already lavish space.

As a traveler who values attention to detail, the Grand Suite’s thoughtful amenities did not go unnoticed. A carefully curated selection of fresh fruit, a daily newspaper, and a personalized handwritten welcome card were just a few of the touches that illustrated the hotel’s commitment to exceeding guests’ expectations. During my stay, I couldn’t help but feel as though I had stepped back in time to a more elegant era while enjoying all the modern comforts of today. The Grand Suite, with its understated elegance, was the epitome of the refined luxury that Lucknam Park is known for.

The World-Class Spa Facilities: A Haven of Serenity

One of the highlights of my stay at Lucknam Park was the visit to their award-winning spa, a place of absolute tranquility and rejuvenation. Tucked away within the estate, the spa is housed in a beautiful, centuries-old walled garden, creating a sense of seclusion and calm. This is easily one of the best spas in the United Kingdom.

Upon entering the spa, I was immediately greeted by a sense of serenity. The interior design is a harmonious blend of natural stone, wood, and glass, which allowed the lush garden views to become part of the experience. The friendly staff welcomed me with a tour of the facility and explained the various treatments and amenities on offer. While I did not have time for a massage or facial on this trip, I did unwind in their grand pool facilities.

The stunning indoor pool at Lucknam Park features floor-to-ceiling windows that let in an abundance of natural light. The pool area was designed with the utmost attention to detail, from the comfortable loungers to the exquisite mosaic tiles. I particularly loved the fire place wall along the pool. Adjacent to the pool, a large hydrotherapy pool and outdoor saltwater plunge pool awaited, providing the perfect contrast of temperatures for a refreshing experience.

For fitness enthusiasts, the spa also boasted a state-of-the-art gym equipped with the latest workout technology and a range of classes. The steam rooms, saunas, and experience showers completed the wellness journey, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in relaxation. After a few hours of pure indulgence, I retreated to the tranquil spa garden. This hidden gem was a haven of greenery, with bubbling fountains and cozy seating areas – a perfect spot to enjoy a post-treatment herbal tea while immersing oneself in the sights and sounds of nature.

Dinning at Lucknam Park: Culinary Excellence

As the sun began to set over the estate, I made my way to The Brasserie Restaurant, one of Lucknam Park’s celebrated dining establishment. The restaurant, situated in the charming courtyard, exuded an ambiance of timeless elegance and modern sophistication. Please note that hotel and spa guests are allowed to wear their bath robes inside during the day until 5:30 pm since this restaurant is connected to the spa facilities. They also offer fantastic set-lunch menus during the week, along with a scrumptious Sunday lunch menu.

You can enjoy a seasonal dining experience at The Brasserie as their chefs use the freshest seasonal produce, sourced from local suppliers wherever possible, and even ingredients straight from their kitchen garden. My dining experience was a symphony of flavors, from the goat cheese tartlets to their hummus and homemade pita bread starter, and their creative take on seafood pasta. I truly enjoyed every bite. Sadly, I was too full to order dessert but everything looked mouthwatering.

And if you’re visiting on a weekend, I highly recommend making reservations at Lucknam Park’s crown jewel dining establishment: Restaurant Hywel Jones. This restaurant is led by Executive Chef Hywel Jones who has held a Michelin star here since 2006. You begin your fine dining journey in either the grand drawing room or cozy library for cocktails and afterwards you’re personally escorted to the beautiful dining room for your meal. Keep in mind, you can also enjoy afternoon tea in the drawing room throughout the week and reservations are also recommended.

The dining room for Restaurant Hywel Jones is also the same room where hotel guests can enjoy breakfast. I loved the morning light in this room, where you can choose from a range of sweet and savory breakfast dishes. I highly recommend their Eggs Benedict and their basket of bread and pastry offerings.

In Conclusion: An Unforgettable Retreat

My stay at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa was nothing short of extraordinary. The Grand Suite provided a luxurious sanctuary, the spa was a haven of relaxation, and dining at The Brasserie was a culinary masterpiece. The attention to detail, warm hospitality, and the sense of seclusion in the heart of the English countryside made this five-star retreat a truly unforgettable experience.

Even if you’re not an overnight guest, there’s so much to enjoy for the day at Lucknam Park especially if the weather is nice. I absolutely loved all the walled gardens, outdoor sculptures, plus walking and cycling trails. For those with a penchant for equestrian pursuits, the Lucknam Park estate offers an Equestrian Centre that’s second to none. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or a beginner, the experienced staff will guide you through the world of horseback riding. Enjoy a relaxing hack through the serene countryside, or take a lesson at their school to hone your equestrian skills.

Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a celebration of a special occasion, or simply a luxurious escape from the demands of daily life, Lucknam Park offers an oasis of opulence that will leave you feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and deeply pampered. It’s no wonder that this quintessential English country estate has earned its reputation as one of the finest luxury destinations in the United Kingdom.
