#1 The Manhattan Beach Food Tour
Food is a great way to connect people, and connecting to a place through its food is a brilliant way to spend time while visiting a new city. Manhattan Beach is a beautiful beach town and hidden gem in Los Angeles. Their community’s diverse food scene is reason enough to spend a day here. So I highly recommend booking a Manhattan Beach Food Tour which takes you on a progressive meal throughout Downtown Manhattan Beach where you can taste the best dishes from the top restaurants! You’ll visit 7 food and drink establishments showcasing a variety of different cuisines including everything from Mexican to Mediterranean, along with a wine tasting and so much more.
This culinary walk is led by locals who will share the history of Manhattan Beach and California’s food trends, as well as highlighting the most picturesque spots in the area. Not only will you be enjoying delicious food, but you’ll also be learning about family-owned restaurants, the backstory of the chefs, and what goes on behind the scenes in order to create these amazing dishes.
I always recommend taking a food tour on the first full day of your trip because then you’ll know the best places to eat, drink, and explore for the rest of your time there! The locals who guide the Manhattan Beach Food Tour are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Los Angeles and will be more than happy to give you plenty of recommendations in order to fully enjoy your time in Southern California. Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, going on a food tour is a great way to meet like-minded people. Ultimately, I believe that both tourists and locals alike will enjoy dining, learning, and exploring together over a 3 hour period on the Manhattan Beach Food Tour! ***Use promo code BITE15 to get 15% off your entire order***
#2 Malibu Wine Safaris
If you’re an animal lover and a wine lover, you can combine both of those loves and spend the afternoon on a Malibu Wine Safari! Malibu is a beautiful coastal town in Los Angeles that feels very far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Chances are you’ve heard of Saddlerock Ranch and Vineyard before if you’re on social media. It’s definitely one of the most Instagram-able locations in Los Angeles.
This 1,000 acre property offers guests a chance to take in the wonderful scenery of the hills and ocean views, all while tasting local wines and getting up close and personal with animals you never knew were Angelinos too! You’ll get to be up close and personal with zebras, camels, alpacas, bison and their most famous resident – Stanley the Giraffe! It’s hard to believe all of this is just 30 minutes away from the city center. Your trusty guide and driver will lead you on a fun-filled adventure in one of their custom-built open-air Safari vehicles. Fun fact: most of their exotic animals come to Saddlerock Ranch after retiring from their successful animal career in Hollywood. Make sure you have a healthy handful of carrots, pellets, or banana (provided) with you as they do love to be fed by guests!
Along with the animals, there are some fantastic wines waiting to be sampled. From Bisous to Zinfandel, they have something for ever type of palette. I especially love how all of their wines are sourced from local vineyard, and feature tastes and flavors of the casual wine-making culture that is very much alive in the Santa Monica Mountains. Two is better than one here as you get to enjoy not only one wine tasting, but two! Overall, you can try at least six different local wines while on your safari through the ranch.
#3 Pan Am Experience
Who remembers Pan American World Airways, often referred to as Pan Am? This pioneer airline was created in 1927 and their routes spanned 6 continents, including 80 countries. Pan Am might not be around anymore, but this powerful brand is still very much alive in a motion picture studio in Southern California!
The Pan Am Experience allows guests to step back in time to the 1970s and board an exact replica of the airline’s Boeing 747. You can fully immerse with a boarding pass, ticket jacket, and carry-on tags. I highly recommend booking a First & Clipper class ticket. This gives you an exclusive invitation to the Clipper Club where you’ll have the opportunity to peruse the vintage Pan Am memorabilia including authentic uniforms, airline seats, handbags, artwork and more. Afterwards, you get to step foot inside the aircraft where a Stewardess (wearing an original Pan Am uniform!) will welcome you on board with a cocktail of your choice.
The interiors of each cabin have all been uniquely restored to Pan Am’s original cabin decor, and the details are very impressive. This certainly isn’t a typical restaurant in Los Angeles but you do get a five-star meal in the Upper Deck dining room. Everything from the china to the glassware is authentic with careful attention to the exquisite service of the era and menu offerings that Pan Am was famous for! While sitting comfortably in a plush Sleeperette seat, you can dine in style while listening to Frank Sinatra’s soothing voice. You have a five-course gourmet meal to look forward to which includes dishes such as shrimp cocktail, fresh vegetables, roasted chicken and potatoes, along with a fine selection of fruit, cheese, biscuits, port wine and more!
At the end of your “flight”, all passengers can take an optional tour of the various production sets at Air Hollywood. This includes the original cockpit from cult classic Airplane! As well as sets and props used in films such as Bridesmaids, The Wolf of Wall Street, and the hit television show Lost. From the impressive Pan Am plane, to the delicious food and interesting Hollywood sets, the Pan Am Experience is a very special evening out!
