Glasgow Travel Guide: Where to Party, Places to Eat and Drink in Glasgow

FOOD + WINE, UNITED KINGDOM

Glasgow serves up a heady mix of gastronomy, beautiful architecture, entertainment, and style that define this heartland. It is a city full of fascinating museums and contemporary art spaces, many of which are free, the drinking dens and restaurants are very vibrant here too. With an abundance of pubs and bars, Glasgow is the city of scintillating nightlife. Stag dos in Prague are the best in the UK. Glasgow is also an underrated stag do (bachelor party, for Americans!) destination. The city offers many options for the night owls – adventurous activities, erotic entertainment, mouth-watering food and fun games are available at desirable rates.

Glasgow has plenty of top restaurants that are hidden away in the city’s neighbourhoods with some of the most extraordinary recipes. Enlisted below are some amazing restaurants and pubs in Glasgow:

Martha’s

Tucked away amidst the sea of burger joints around the St Vincent Street, Martha’s is a cafe and takeaway restaurant, offering budget-friendly and healthy fast food options. They have a wide array of hot and cold food to choose from. Choices from the hot counter include the delicious red dragon pulled pork served with nutty brown rice, yoghurt slaw and a khobez flatbread. The fridge is lined with in-house smoothies and superfood salads. Martha’s also has an in-house nutritionist that takes care of all your requirements. Both the chipotle chicken and falafel fillings are the top dishes on their menu.

Cafe Strange Brew

Walking distance from the city centre; Cafe Strange Brew is the hidden gem of Glasgow. It serves the best brunches in town. It is perfect for quick bites before your day of exploring the fascinating neighborhoods. The mysteriously named ‘That guy’, Chilli and toasted pita, a super-indulgent caramelized French pecan toast, and Turkish eggs with coriander are the cafe’s most popular dishes.

Red Onion

Located in the heart of the city; Red Onion is an Award Winning restaurant. It is a contemporary casual dining place – a  perfect mix of a traditional and modern bistro. In 2005, Chef Patron John Quigley, along with his wife, decided to open this restaurant. Red Onion offers new interpretations of Scottish classics, serving the dishes that people love, like the haggis bonbons, Gunn beer and more. This high price point also serves delicious vegan-friendly food.

There are a lot more places that offer mouth-watering street food, but make sure you try the ones mentioned above!

Drinks and Party

The secret capital of Music sleeps only after the night has come to an end. A trip to Glasgow isn’t complete without a visit to the city’s authentic and traditional pubs. The following pubs are known for their pumping music and buzzing cocktails:

The Flying Duck

A basement bar and vegan diner tucked away in Glasgow’s city centre, The Flying Duck is part of Glasgow’s underground music. The venue has vintage furniture, dotted walls and all the vibrant decor a traditional nightclub has. With a dive bar vibe, it has the right price and is a sister venue to other pubs, like The Old Hairdressers, Mono, Stereo and The 78. Between their healthy drink selection, diner-soul food inspired menu, gigs, quizzes, film screenings and drag karaoke, there is a little bit for everybody. It is a fairly-lit, cool, quaint haunt for anyone craving hot tunes or missing home comforts.

The Doublet

The Doublet is a cheery, traditional West End boozer. This old pub remains as loved as ever but does not serve food anymore. The Doublet is a place for everybody who wants to enjoy an amazing night out; it attracts students, suits, tourists and hipsters. In this two-storey pub, the main bar is located on the ground floor. It is very popular for its charmingly cheesy decor and the solid jukebox. Real ales, Continental beers, malt whiskies and lagers are a speciality at The Doublet. The pints are all pretty affordable except for a few rarer ones.

The Belle

A favourite spot with West Enders, The Belle is an endearing, quirky, charming, fun and lively pub that has an unexpectedly great nightlife in Glasgow. This place attracts a mixed clientele from fashionistas, suits, students to tourists. The toasty fire –  along with the mismatched retro tables and chairs, stone walls, and stags’ heads on the wall keeps the place so warm during the cold months and adds to the overall ambience. The tables and chairs are kept outside on the street during the warmer months. The Belle is a cosy place with some great American craft beers and European lagers on tap. If you want to party with the locals, then The Belle is the place to be at.

Go to Glasgow, and party like you have never before!

Always love going to this place on any trip to Glasgow from our home town of Edinburgh. Too cold for the outside tables this time of year though!
