3 Reasons Why Ponant is the Best Luxury Small Ship Cruise Experience

When it comes to the world’s leading luxury yacht expeditions cruise line, look no further than Ponant Cruises. For over 25 years, their luxurious ships have been exploring mythical ports and little-known anchorages which are only accessible to smaller ships like theirs. If I want a reliable, high-end, and unique cruise experience, I know I can always count on them to deliver! Here are just a few reasons why you should choose Ponant for your next luxury, small ship cruise vacation

#1 Quality Over Quantity

There’s nothing worse than paying thousands of dollars on a cruise, only to experience overcrowding and subpar service. Ponant’s ships have been specifically and purposefully designed to welcome a limited number of guests. Their philosophy produces a more welcoming and unique atmosphere. You truly feel like a valued customer while on board, and a more personalized service is guaranteed.

Their fleet of 9 magnificent ships offer comfort that’s comparable to the very finest luxury and boutique hotels around the world. You can still enjoy fantastic leisure and public areas such as a well-being center, pool and sun deck, lounges, bars, theaters, shops, and more. However, these spaces are more thoughtfully designed and organized to respect each guests’s privacy. Also, you’re simply not on board with huge numbers of people like on other cruise ships, which automatically makes any trip more enjoyable. Therefore, you can truly enjoy Ponant’s cozy and refined atmosphere in these living areas that offer moments of both relaxation and socializing.

Thanks to Ponant’s smaller size, their ships have access to quieter ports of call. This guarantees exclusive cruises to exciting, bucket-list worthy destinations. Ponant sails all over the world, from the Antarctic to the Pacific, both Mediterranean and Asian shores, island hopping in the Caribbean and so much more. I also love their wide range of themed cruises, where you can focus mainly on music, wine-tasting, gastronomy, art, literature, or even golf!

#2 The “French Touch”

I was surprised to discover that Ponant is the world’s only French cruise company. As a guest, you can certainly appreciate the signature French feel of everything, including their design, services, and cuisine. They also carefully select amazing partners to share their passion for French excellence. In other words, Ponant is a true ambassador of the “French Touch” on board their ships.

You can expect a French crew to welcome you and ensure your well-being throughout your cruise journey. If there’s anything the French understand, it’s food. Ponant takes great pride in their gastronomy and you will be sure to experience fragrant flavors, carefully selected cheeses and wines, speciality breads and pastries, and so much more. Incredible French companies such as Lenôtre, Veuve Clicquot, and Ladurée have their products on board which makes for an excellent gastronomy experience. You will also find Hermès bath products in all staterooms and suites, as well as beautiful interior designs by Jean Philippe Nuel.

#3 Dedication to the Environment

Nowadays, caring for our environment is as important as ever and Ponant really understands that. Their commitment to protecting the environment is very impressive, with their state-of-the-art technologies onboard their ships which improve waste and water treatments, raise the awareness of travelers, and more. As a result, all of their ships have been awarded the international “Clean Ship” label; this certifies that they have reduced their environmental impact.

For example, they have a sonar system on board for the detection of shoals to avoid contact with reefs and icebergs. They also use a low energy and low heat emitting lighting system, as well as having real-time energy consumption calculation tools to reduce energy consumption. To go even further, they urge everyone on board to be responsible. Ponant takes people to some of the most remote and wild places on the planet, and they realize this privileged position means they have an obligation both towards these places and the people who live there. And so, an environmental impact study is carried out before the conception of any new itinerary to ensure that the impact of every landing is only temporary and transitory.

These are just a few of the reasons why cruising with Ponant is both unique and enjoyable for all! Along with their exceptional itineraries, five-star service, and thoughtful design, I highly recommend choosing Ponant Cruises for your next memorable vacation on the water.

  1. It’s great to read about technology being used for the benefit of the environment. Travelling on this ship must be a tremendous experience.

I have just recently been on a luxury small ship cruise and “quality over quantity” is what sets the bar so high for these types of cruise lines. Your description of what the French-owned cruise company has done makes me want to look further and see if they’re going to ports I want to visit.

    • Carmen Edelson

I hope you consider sailing with them, Rhonda!

  3. To be honest, I’ve never heard of Ponant before, but I’m definitely going to check it out. I’m sold on luxury small-ship cruising – – it’s an entirely different experience than the large ships and so much more enjoyable. The French touches make it even more appealing. Hermes bath products, Laduree macrons and Veuve Cliquot are a few of my favourite things!

Right?! Some of my favorite things too!

  4. This sounds like the type of cruise ship I would enjoy. My sister enjoys cruise travels, but I, on the other hand, don’t enjoy it so much as the massive crowds turn me off. Having a lesser crowd is a huge plus. I also like the French touch! The French really understand design and their cuisine is exquisite. I would love to know more about the dishes they serve onboard. Also, love to hear that their ports aren’t so crowded either 🙂

It’s great to know that Ponant cares about the environment. I’ve stayed away from luxury cruises all these years since they pollute the environment by carelessly dumping solid waste and sewage in the oceans adding to the already growing burden. The services look good. May be worth trying once.

Yes, I’d definitely go with Ponant! They wouldn’t dare do that.
