Il Paesano: The Best Italian Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale

FLORIDA, FOOD + WINE, FORT LAUDERDALE, LIFESTYLE, LUXURY TRAVEL DESTINATIONS, TRAVEL, UNITED STATES

Fort Lauderdale, known for its sun-kissed beaches and vibrant atmosphere, offers more than just ocean views and bustling nightlife. Less than a mile from the beach, tucked away in the heart of this coastal gem, is a culinary haven that embodies the authenticity of Italian cuisine: Il Paesano. This charming family-owned restaurant is my go-to spot for Italian food in Fort Lauderdale, and I recommend it to anyone who’s visiting. The food will easily capture your heart (and palate), but you will want to return for the warm hospitality as well.

Vergil and Paola are the owners, a hardworking husband and wife team who’ve poured their hearts and souls into Il Paesano. Both come from European descent, specifically Italy and Portugal. After living in Fort Lauderdale for several years, raising their family, they found it difficult to find authentic Italian food and products. In other words, they craved a home cooked meal the way their Nonna would make it, so they set out on a mission to deliver that to the Fort Lauderdale community themselves!

In my opinion, they’ve gone above and beyond accomplishing that goal with Il Paesano; their restaurants also doubles as an Italian gourmet food shop, cafe, deli, and wine market. As you step through the doors, you’ll be greeted by an ambiance that radiates the cozy charm of an Italian trattoria. The walls adorned with vintage photographs, art, and rustic décor create a welcoming atmosphere that instantly transports you to the heart of Italy. You’ll also find shelves lining the walls of the main dining area with Italian treats and ingredients you can purchase to enjoy at home. And when I don’t have time for a sit-down meal, I love going to their deli counter and ordering a panini for lunch or one of their many take-home dishes I can heat up later for dinner.

The best Italian food is a simple, home-cooked meal with fresh ingredients and Il Paesano’s offers exactly that. The menu is often being updated to reflect the season’s best ingredients and they will let you know the daily specials which are always a hit. I’d recommend any of their pasta or gnocchi dishes, all lovingly made from scratch, along with their Osso Bucco which is a favorite of mine. You really cannot go wrong with any dish at Il Paesano, especially their desserts. Their chocolate mousse hazelnut cake is a must-try.

One of the highlights that sets Il Paesano apart is their unique Parmigiano Wheel Dinner, a culinary spectacle that tantalizes both the taste buds and the eyes. Imagine a wheel of aged parmigiano cheese, its savory aroma filling the air. As you watch in awe, their skilled owner Vergil prepares your dish right before your eyes, tossing freshly cooked pasta within the hollowed wheel of cheese. The result is a creamy, indulgent pasta that’s infused with the distinct flavors of Parmigiano-Reggiano. This interactive experience is not just a meal; it’s a celebration of Italian tradition and culinary artistry. Along with bottomless pasta, they offer 3 courses in total for $65 per person; it’s the most delicious deal in town and it happens about twice a month. Reservations are required!

I highly recommend checking out Il Paesano’s Facebook page to see other fun dining events throughout the month. They also offer pasta making classes, wine tasting dinners, and more. Overall, their commitment to family recipes, fresh ingredients, and a warm ambiance creates an experience that’s not just about food, but about connecting with the heart of Italian culture. So, if you find yourself in Fort Lauderdale, make sure to carve out time to experience the enchantment of Il Paesano. Your taste buds—and your heart—will thank you for it.
