Boutique Mexico has taken a fresh new take on the practical woven bag. You can soak up the sun while keeping it classic with the sophisticated styles from Boutique Mexico. With a mission to give back to the community, this charitable company partners with native artisans in Guerrero, Hidalgo, Puebla, Chiapas, and Oaxaca to help them earn a living, while preserving the ancient crafts of weaving and embroidery which have been the creative expression of their communities for generations.
The Stella Medium short handle tote is handmade by artisans in Oaxaca. It is a fabulous quality tote and this particular style is very fashionable and practical for the summer season. First off, the tote keeps all your essentials secure. Of course, I live in Florida, so it is well-suited to wear this style all year long but it also comes in other vibrant colors and styles which can fit every season. This bag is also appropriately sized so you can still put a towel in it and rock it at the beach, or use it as an everyday handbag.
Many summer totes are woven out of straw but this one is handwoven out of plastic, so it will last longer if you are either having lunch in Miami or simply enjoying a day at the beach. Keeping with a traditional style, it’s easy to see that every single Boutique Mexico bag embodies some cultural flavor. Some of the designs use embroidery and spirited styles to add flavor into not looking boring. Every handbag made by the company has its own sense of personality. They all have a playful use of color and can easily transform a plain looking outfit into a fun one!
The Stella Medium tote bag is a handwoven Mexican classic and perennial favorite. It’s a stylish tote that comes in many hot colors; it look great at anytime, in any place.
Putting these traditional made bags on the global market brings financial stability in the future of these artisans who craft them. In the 1960’s, the Otomi people of Central Mexico used hand embroidery and free-hand drawing designs, traditionally made by the women, as a second source of income due to the failed crops during a drought. The company values the local artisans that craft the bags and they give them a say in the making of the bags. They also donate to La Escuelita de Sonia School for children in need in the city where they live. Furthermore, a portion of every bracelet purchased is donated to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage site near Tulum, Mexico.
Beyond their great bag collection, Boutique Mexico also offers other unique accessories that are also made by those rural artists. Their jewelry and bags come with fun and unique tassels and pom poms which are sure to add a pop of color to any outfit. Hint: This would be the perfect gift for Mother’s Day!
