As an avid traveler, there is nothing better than being able to drop everything at a moment’s notice and set off for a weekend getaway at the lake house or an extended stay overseas. Still, there is a lot of planning that goes into trips, whether you’re flying by the seat of your pants or planning months in advance. The most complete monitored home security system on the market is worth checking out, discover what Vivint costs. At the end of the day, knowing your home is safe while you’re away is priceless.
From packing lists to accommodation reservations, a lot of thought can be devoted to making sure your getaway is full of the luxury and relaxation. But there are many things to think about before leaving your home, as well. When you’re gone, the last thing you want to do is worry about the safety and well-being of your home. That’s why, at Modernize, they suggest that all regular travelers invest in the following smart home technology for their homes.
Manage Your Lighting from Afar
A commonly adopted practice for regular travellers is automating their lighting on a schedule. Many believe this gives the appearance that someone is home, simply because they have their lights turned on in the evening for a few hours and then off at their typical bedtime. While automated lights have been around for some time, it is only just recently that homeowners have been enabled to manage them from their smartphones. Now, with the use of an Internet-enabled device, you can turn your lights on and off or simply set them on autopilot so you don’t have to think about them while you are away.
Use Smart Sensors to Protect Your Home From Unexpected Disaster
When the topic of home safety comes up, your first thought may be protecting your home from invasion. While this is certainly a concern for travellers, there are other unexpected disasters to prepare for while you are away. For instance, what if one of your appliances were to break while you were away? If a freezer or refrigerator breaks, you could lose food. If your heating and cooling system were to malfunction, would the dramatic temperatures outdoors being dangerous to items in your home? If a water leak were to occur, serious damage could be done to your home. There are many smart sensors on the market specifically targeted at potential disasters that could go wrong while you are away. Some will alert you to water leaks, while others will alert you if the temperature in your home changes.
Protect Your Home From Unwanted Visitors with a Smart Security System
Perhaps the most obvious way to protect your home is through the use of a home security system. Due to advances in technology, home security systems have moved beyond simply alerting you and the police if someone enters your home while you are away. Now, you can invest in smart locks and garage doors that allow you to control your entryways in your home from your smartphone or any other Internet-capable device. You can also have security cameras installed in your home, which can also be easily controlled from an app installed on your phone.
When you travel, the most important thing is that you are able to relax and enjoy yourself while you are away. Without the technology needed to secure and protect your home, it is impossible to feel at peace about being away. Adding home automation technology to your home gives you that peace of mind, and the carefree luxury travel you desire.

June 18, 2016 at 5:04 pmThis is really useful advice, I’m going to pin this so more people can see it! Having an app that controls the lights in your place is a genius idea! I have a bluetooth activated light bulb sitting in a corner somewhere that I haven’t touched yet, I’m going to try this out!

June 19, 2016 at 12:02 amIt seems that we should have a full investment of new system to get all connected and smart home equipments. could you please write one more article about your choice of equipments, and of system. We love to know the cost too 😉
Carmen Edelson
June 19, 2016 at 4:57 pmI’ll definitely do a follow-up article on what types of equipments are best. It all started with the Ring doorbell. I had foot surgery recently and wasn’t able to get up and answer the door everything I got a package, or someone was at the door. When someone rings your doorbell the app notices you on your phone. You can see who’s at your door and even answer it from anywhere. The system cost around $200 and it’s worth every penny.

June 19, 2016 at 12:57 pmVery interesting take on home security. I know many insurance companies require someone to physically check the premises every few days for insurance to be valid, do you know if this is a substitute that the insurance companies approve of? Or would you still need someone to come and check on your home?
Carmen Edelson
June 19, 2016 at 5:08 pmI don’t see a security guard checking in on my house on a regular basis here unless I lived in a gated community. Most homeowner insurance policies here in the U.S. give you credit for having an alarm system, and in my case hurricane impact glass windows that are hard to break into.
