My latest trip to Russia was presented as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: I was invited on an exclusive tour by the Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg. I flew to Russia on Turkish Airlines which was a fabulous experience, you can read all about it here. Once I landed, I was whisked away to the Corinthia’s incredible location on Nevsky Prospect, a historic main street in St Petersburg. A splendor located in the heart of the city, I was easily able to navigate my way to the multitude of tours, restaurants, and shows that had been kindly organized for my stay!
The Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg was opened in 2002, meaning this year marked two special occasions: the 15th anniversary of the hotel and the 100th anniversary of The Great October Revolution, the rebellion of the Bolsheviks. 2017 also marked the fifth time that the Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg has gained recognition by the World Travel Awards as Russia’s Leading Conference Hotel. This is just one of several awards and recognition’s they have earned over the years and it is easy to see why after staying there!
The hotel itself is comprised of three 19th-century buildings that were renovated and expanded in 2009. I especially liked the combination of the older architecture and modern touches, making it beautiful, historic, and functional. There are 388 state-of-the art room and suites, 95 of which are executive rooms. All rooms have a lovely view of the interior courtyard and are beautifully appointed with modern amenities such as an LCD TV with over 70 channels.
My room was a Junior Suite which was quite spacious and elegantly designed. It featured a comfortable king size bed and a pillow menu, a luxury you can only find in the best of hotels! I love any service that really makes your stay personal and special. The sitting area in front of the bed was a great place to unwind after spending the day exploring St Petersburg. Behind the king size bed were two large closets that provided ample storage, more than your average hotel room. On the other side of the room was a nice desk for those, like me, who mix business with pleasure and need a proper space to work.
The room came will little extras such as a Nespresso machine, fully stocked mini fridge, and a lovely welcome tray. The delicious desserts and wine made me feel very special, which I think is such a nice touch.
The Junior Suite bathroom immediately impressed me when I discovered two separate areas for the spacious shower and marble bath tub. Other luxury amenities were provided such as a heated towel rack, make up mirror, and complimentary ESPA bath products.
At the Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg, there is a large range of suites available, from the Deluxe Junior Suite to the extravagant Presidential Suite. The latter offers a superb view of Nevsky Prospect from a private balcony, a walk-in wardrobe, a kitchen, and a private bar. I had the pleasure of visiting the Presidential Suite and can safely say that the view is just as incredible as all the amazing features inside the suite. Other spacious options include the Royal Suite and the Nevsky Suite, all with luxurious marble bathrooms, outstanding features, and access to the Executive Club Lounge.
It is so worth booking a room that includes access to the Executive Club Lounge, an exceptional feature at the Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg. Its stylish decor and open space make it the perfect place to work, unwind, and enjoy drinks and snacks. A breakfast buffet is offered everyday starting at 7 AM, along with lunch snacks at noon and dinner snacks at 5 PM. Light refreshments are available throughout the day and house wine and beer are offered until 10 PM. I enjoyed breakfast most days in the Executive Club Lounge and the food from the buffet is delicious! You can also order items off the menu.
Fortunately, you do not have to look far for fine dining as one of the finest establishments in St. Petersburg can be found in the hotel itself: The Imperial Restaurant. Known for a mix of international dishes with some Russian influences, guests can enjoy exquisite cuisine while admiring the views of Nevsky Prospect.
I so enjoyed the ambiance, views, and most importantly – the food! The Imperial Restaurant also serves buffet breakfast in the morning. We had dinner one evening at the Imperial Restaurant. I started with the salt baked beetroot salad, followed by the salmon with asparagus. Both were light but incredibly flavorful, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. Other’s in our group had the ale braised beef cheek with sweet potato puree and caramelized shallots (pictured below). I ended on a sweet note and ordered the Russian cheesecake dessert with white chocolate glaze and blueberry sauce.
If you are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, the Lobby Bar is open from morning to midnight in the hotel’s beautiful lobby. Similarly, the Nevsky Bar is a favorite for unwinding after a busy day. Open to both guests and city residents, a live jazz band is in attendance on Fridays and Saturdays. The cocktails at the Nevsky Bar are some of the best I’ve ever tried! We were treated to a cocktail demonstration where the bartender whipped up a few of their signature cocktails for us. These carefully crafted cocktails were not only delicious, but cleverly named as well. I would recommend the Pushkin-Tini, Trans-Siberian Express, Moscow Mule, and Nevky Negroni, just to name a few!
For those looking for a cup of something warm or to indulge a sweet tooth, Cafe Vienna on the lobby level is an established coffee and tea house. There are also savory snacks for those who prefer to skip on dessert and guests can partake in lunch or dinner at the café as well. I enjoyed a late evening dinner at Cafe Vienna after attending the ballet. I highly recommend ordering the Beef Stroganoff with mushroom sauce and mash potatoes and the Honey cake with strawberry coulis for dessert!
One of the hotel’s crown jewels is the five-star conference and meeting facility, the largest one in St Petersburg. You will find 17 rooms, 24-hour service conference support, and attentive service which contributes to making this the ideal event location. This includes the Nevsky ballroom, a hall decorated in art deco style with movable partitions that transform the room into three separate areas if needed. For those looking to spend their special day at an unforgettable location, the Corinthia St Petersburg is a sumptuous choice for weddings. Private banquet rooms and top-notch service are included in the hotel’s wedding offer, where guests can choose between the Silver, Golden, or Platinum packages. I can only imagine how stunning a wedding would be in this beautiful hotel! The surroundings are gorgeous and the service is top notch.
There is also a Fitness Center which has a number of unparalleled facilities such as a fully-stocked gym, the Health Club, and a solarium that allows you to sun-bathe while admiring a gorgeous view of the city. What more could you possibly want?
One of the hidden gems of the Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg is it has the unique advantage of containing the Samoilov Museum as a backdrop, a small memorial museum dedicated to the history of Russian ballet and theatre. It is definitely worth visiting, especially if you are a fan of the performing arts.
Art à la Carte Package
Despite its relatively young age, St Petersburg has earned a historic reputation for its dedication to the arts and breath-taking architecture. Not only is its historic center a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also considered the birthplace of the world-renown Russian ballet. The hotel is currently offering an exciting special package called the Art à la Carte Package. This package allows guests to experience one museum, one theatre performance, and several other goodies such as accommodation for at least two nights and transportation to and from the hotel. Guests can choose between the prestigious Hermitage Museum and the iconic Russian Museum, and between the Mariinsky Opera and the Ballet Theatre. Each and every one of these experiences are fantastic options. This package is an incredible chance to experience the height of what St Petersburg has to offer and to dive into the culture of this magnificent city. Other current offers for a transformative experience at the Corinthia St Petersburg include A Magical Christmas and the New Year’s Eve packages.
My stay at the Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg was a memorable one. They not only welcomed me into their beautiful hotel, but showed me the best of the city. This luxury property goes above and beyond what most hotels offer their guests which is a pattern you will find among all Corinthia Hotels!
