7 of the Most Incredible Cities You Should Visit in Canada

You’ve probably heard that Toronto and Vancouver are the places to start when planning your trip to Canada. But each of Canada’s big cities tells its own tale – one you’ll want to listen to. Check out these seven best places to visit in Canada that don’t always get the attention they deserve:

#1 – Quebec City, Quebec

If you’re trying to decide where to go in Canada, start by ensuring you have adequate IEC insurance, then pack your bags and head to the famous French-soaked Quebec City.

European elegance is reflected in cobblestone paths, chateau-style structures, and grandiose churches that pay homage to the city’s French heritage. Less than an hour from downtown lies breathtaking Jaques-Cartier National Park, a mecca for the outdoor lover. You can also explore the small, postcard-worthy towns surrounding the main city.

#2 – Calgary, Alberta

Home of the 1988 Winter Olympics, Calgary remains one of the biggest cultural hubs in Canada. It’s close to the Canadian Rockies yet offers flatlands throughout the city that are perfect for biking. Luxury lodging, a thriving art scene, and earthy fare might make you want to extend your stay.

#3 – Ottawa, Ontario

Sightseeing is the name of the game in Ottawa. Highlights like the Rideau Canal and Gatineau Park are must-see sites, along with stunning markets, restaurants, and museums. In fact, Ottawa is home to one of the biggest concentrations of museums and other historical icons, and you’ll want to visit at least one before you leave.

#4 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

This coastal city is a blend of Canadian food, history, and culture. Nova Scotia is well known for its festivals, including the annual Greek Festival, Jazz Festival, and Pride Festival – all held in this historic town. Halifax is also home to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, where you can get a heaping dose of Titanic knowledge and history.

#5 – Montreal, Quebec

Not far from Quebec lies another French-inspired city, Montreal. It’s one of the biggest French-speaking areas in the country, with food and culture to match. The city is home to over 100 festivals each year, including Food Trucks Festival, Jazz Fest, Just for Laughs and the International Fireworks Festival.

#6 – Victoria, British Columbia

Victoria is the city people visit when they want to get away from Vancouver for the weekend. The city is home to some of Canada’s most beloved icons, including Hatley Castle, Butchart Gardens, and the best fish and chips you’ll find outside of London. It also boasts the oldest and second-largest Chinatown in North America.

#7 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Winnipeg is arguably one of the most eclectic cities in Canada. It boasts an amazing culinary scene. It’s cemented itself in the annals of art and theater, having been home to the first Royal ballet company in the British Commonwealth. Hockey fans abound since the city is home to the Winnipeg Jets. It’s also one of the few spots in Canada where you’ll get to see polar bears (head to the Journey to Churchill exhibit with your camera!).
