The Saint John Hotel: Boutique & Luxury Charm in Malta

BOUTIQUE HOTELS, HOTELS

Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting the lovely island of Malta for the first time! This small island country is situated between Sicily and the North African Coast. It is known for its historic sites and beautiful scenery. The Saint John, a boutique and luxury hotel in Valletta, was my home for a few days and it charmed me from the moment I stepped through its colorful blue doors. As a member of AX Hotels, The Saint John brings a new life to the 17th century building its housed in. I enjoyed the historic touches and the mix of contemporary features and technology in its 21 personalized rooms.

Valletta is the capital of Malta and the economic heart of the island. It is an easy flight on Air Malta from many major cities in Europe. Malta was actually named the European Capital of Culture for 2018 so now is the perfect time to visit!  You will find various designer retail brands and colorful outdoor cafes are all located within walking distance from The Saint John. I really enjoyed being in the center of all the action.

After long days of exploring everything Malta has to offer, The Saint John was such an inviting place to come back to every night. Their surroundings are inspiring thanks to productivity enhancing color schemes, contemporary, energizing designs and comfortable furniture throughout the hotel. There is definitely an element of sophistication here and a wonderful combination of styles that work perfectly together.

No two rooms are the same at The Saint John and the careful attention to detail is very impressive. I felt right at home in my Comfort Quad Room which overlooks the vintage style courtyard with an abundance of natural light. I was drawn to the colorful floor design and retro furniture.

There were so many interesting elements in each corner of the room to admire! The desk space was great and I appreciated the USB charging ports beside the bed. Another nice touch was you could control the room’s lighting from either side of the bed as well.  Contemporary elements like this make all the difference to me, as I travel so frequently for work and leisure.

Right off the bedroom was my bathroom which was behind a sliding glass door. The bathroom was very spacious and I had plenty of space under the sink and on the counter for my toiletries.

The Saint John provides guests a fabulous breakfast at The Cheeky Monkey, their trendy and fun restaurant that is just next door.

You’ll find creatively prepared “pub grub” here with different culinary palettes ranging from Spain and La Province to the Greek Island and Turkey. Of course, the flavors of the Maltese Islands are represented as well and I’d highly recommend you try one of their

In the few days that I stayed at the hotel, I ate regularly at The Cheeky Monkey restaurant.  The food was fabulous and they offered a nice selection of choices. My favorite dishes were the mushroom gnocchi and the Caesar salad with chicken.

The Saint John also recently launched their branded, custom-made collection of bow ties which are revolutionary made for women. The collection was presented at ‘The Saint John Walk’ – a special fashion event held on the 29th of September, 2017. This event highlighted the official inauguration of the hotel together with an exclusive fashion show by the international clothing brand Cessani! You can see these fabulous bow ties displayed throughout the hotel.

There are so many benefits to booking direct at The Saint John.  For example, If you book a 3 night stay with them, they will give you 15% off, as well as free breakfast and a free one-way airport transfer!  You can check out all of their amazing rewards on their website.

Thanks to the high quality of hospitality I experienced at The Saint John, I fell in love with Malta even more. There is no doubt I’ll be staying here next time I plan a trip to this special Mediterranean Island.

Note:  My entire stay was hosted by The Saint John, but as always, the opinions here are my own.

I love staying at boutique properties, so much so that I now plan some of my trips around who has a boutique hotel and who doesn’t. 🙂 The Saint John looks amazing. Love that they make it easy for guests to get to the hotel from the airport. I’ll keep this property in mind if I get to Malta.

I so enjoy boutique hotels and inns as they have so much charm, and you always find ones I would like too. Love that each room is different and that they offer a discount for a longer stay, free breakfast, and airport transfer. I will keep this in mind!
