Finding Affordable Luxury at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Athens, Greece

EUROPE, GREECE, HOTELS, LUXURY TRAVEL, RESORTS & SPAS

If you’re searching for affordable luxury in the heart of Athens, look no further than the Wyndham Grand Hotel. Located an easy 30 minute drive from the airport, I quickly arrived at the Wyndham Grand where I was welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff. This fully renovated five-star hotel is an ideal choice for both business and vacation travelers who enjoy the finer things in life. It is conveniently located next to the Metaxourgeio metro station, making it an ideal starting point to explore Athens historic sites within minutes.

In the lobby and throughout the hotel, I noticed lovely plants and fresh flower arrangements. I always appreciate little touches like these and I believe they set five-star hotels apart from the rest. After an easy check-in, I was excited to see what my room had to offer. The Wyndham Grand has an impressive 276 rooms and suites spread across 8 floors. This magnificent hotel takes up an entire city block! So there’s no doubt they can comfortably accommodate singles, couples, and families.

I had the pleasure of staying in an Executive Double room which includes a lovely king sized bed with Egyptian cotton sheets. It was so nice to crawl into this plush bed after a long haul flight. Every room at the Wyndham comes with a lovely view, whether it be of the beautiful atrium, the city, or my personal favorite… a view of the Acropolis! That’s right, my room overlooked Athens unbelievably ancient and most iconic landmark. As impressive as it is to admire during the day, I loved gazing at the Acropolis from my room in the evening when it was golden lit. What a stunning sight to see first thing in the morning and the last thing at night!

My room was beautifully appointed with very contemporary yet cozy furnishings. The bathroom felt incredibly elegant with luxury marble ceramic tiles and a spacious rain shower. The closet had ample space to hang my clothes, and I really liked that the luggage rack stand was right next to it.

I didn’t have to look too far for a great meal in Athens. Luckily, the Wyndham Grand offers some of the finest dining choices in the city. Every morning I enjoyed going downstairs to dine at Fos. This Mediterranean restaurant translates to “Light” in Greek and I quickly realized why. Located on the ground floor of the atrium, Fos is such a bright, spacious and naturally lit restaurant with so many delightful breakfast options laid out beautifully for hotel guests. The breakfast buffet has many varieties of fresh fruits, yogurts, raw honey, breads, eggs, fresh juice, and a wide selection of teas.

They also serve food throughout the day if you’re interested in some delectable Mediterranean dishes for lunch and dinner, along with a rich selection of wines.

A stay at the Wyndham Grand isn’t complete without visiting their rooftop restaurant: Above. Whether you’re here during the day or in the evening, you can get a mouthful of delicious food and an eyeful of amazing scenery! I could also admire the Acropolis from this restaurant, as well as Lycabettus Hill and all the way down to the Saronic Gulf. It was truly mesmerizing.

The food was exceptional all the time.  My favorite dish for lunch was their hearty Prosciutto Salad.

In the evenings, you can enjoy the views of the Acropolis which are spectacular as you watch the sun setting.  For dinner I enjoyed their fresh salmon and just had to try their delicious chocolate dessert.

I’d also recommend checking out their pool up here while you’re at it. During the day you can lay comfortably in a deck chair, sip on refreshing cocktails, or cool off under the impressive waterfall.

The Wyndham Grand completely blew me away and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Athens. The Wyndham Grand Athens and Zeus International won two awards recently which included Best City Hotel and Commitment to Excellence in Hotel Management at this year’s Seven Stars Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards!  Whether it is your first of fifth time exploring this historic city, you will never grow tired of their magnificent and unobstructed views!

Perfect! Absolutely perfect! I would have loved to stay at the Wyndham Grand Hotel when we were in Athens. The view of the Acropolis from your room is awesome, the lobby is just beautiful, and the rooftop bar and swimming pool would have added so much to our experience! We loved our visit to Athens, and perhaps the hotel we chose was the best for our budget at that time, but if I come back, I’ll definitely look into this one!

When we visited Athens in 2012, it was on a cruise ship so we didn’t have to worry about accommodation, but if we went back I’d love to stay at the Wyndham. It must have been marvellous to overlook the Acropolis – what a view. And that dessert looks divine. It’s always hard to find a hotel with a really good restaurant.
