SemSem: A Luxury Clothing Line Dedicated to Women

BEAUTY + FASHION, LIFESTYLE

As cliché as it may sound, in this day and age it is often difficult to find brands that you can trust. So many organizations treat their laborers poorly, mislabel their cheap product as quality, or even send negative messages through their clothing. It’s disheartening to find clothes you like, especially if you’re picky like me, and then discover an article on the web about how the clothing is generated in terrible working-conditions or by animal cruelty. One could almost say that it’s a crime to look good! Thankfully, there are brands out there that know how to make luxury clothing without hurting the environment and also benefiting their workers. SemSem is a clothing company for women and girls that is dedicated to elegance and quality while supporting organizations promoting philanthropy and woman empowerment.

I’m sharing a few of my favorite pieces from SemSem on the fall/winter collection.  Here are my picks to help you create the best #SemSemMoments this autumn!

The Clothes

The SemSem clothing line is fresh and playful while still being appropriate for any occasion. Touches like beaded cuffs on a blazer and triangular cut-outs modernize trends like the pantsuit or longer dresses. The line carries a lot of classic black and white articles along with bursts of bright blue or velvety purple, for both business looks and casual. Designer and founder, Abeer Al Otaiba, uses French and Egyptian influences in her handiwork, which can be seen in her incorporation of lotus flowers and triangles.

The clothing for girls retains practicality while still being chic; I wish my own wardrobe as a child had involved this level of style! Adorable dresses with ruffled sleeves and long socks with booties are perfect for any little fashionista. There are also dolls with accessories that match the girl’s clothing line so that your loved one can feel all the more connected to her toy companion.

The Story

Many great works of art and design are linked back to inspiration from the heart; the soul of SemSem comes from creative director Abeer Al Otaiba’s relationship with her daughter, Samia. As you might have guessed, the name for the line stems from Samia’s affectionate nickname, SemSem. With motherhood as her muse, Abeer has made it her mission to honor the special bonds between mother and daughter. Through her clothing line, she is able to share her passion-born creativity and cultural experiences with others.

Helping Others

As a line inspired by and for women, SemSem is more than just a cultivator of fashion. Abeer’s passion extends to the well-being and empowerment of women on a global level. SemSem supports a multitude of organizations around the world promoting education and healthcare to those who need it with its proceeds. You can feel good knowing that when you purchase clothing from SemSem, you are also contributing to something much larger: the welfare of women around the globe.

Angele.H International employees

Angele.H International, founded in Madagascar by Angele Homawoo about a decade ago, is partnering with SemSem to ensure that all employees are offered a steady salary and stability in exchange for their work and dedication. Angele.H International guarantees hand-stitched smocking techniques, a slow and steady progress that guarantees quality. A great majority (99%) of these artisans are single moms or widowed; this organization establishes coverage for a number of basic needs, ranging from retirement savings to transportation to and from work.

The organization Nation of Dolls is also partnering with SemSem to provide workshops in the Philippines on health and education, as well as providing job opportunities. Additionally, this winter, SemSem is participating in Every Mother Counts, a non-profit whose mission is to provide safety for mothers in pregnancy and childbirth. These are just a few of the organizations that SemSem is involved with to benefit women; I encourage anyone who is interested in learning more to read about SemSem’s mission on SemSem.com.

I’m a huge fan of SemSem styles. You can purchase any of these outfits on the company’s website, www.semsem.com.

All of her designs are very fashionable and stylish. I really like how the girls dress up to look like their moms.

I’m very picky when it comes to clothes and what outfits look good on me. SemSem has a very nice selection of outfits that are very flattering for all shapes and sizes.
