Places to See in DC

SITES TO SEE, TOURS, UNITED STATES

Washington DC has a large selection of museums and monuments that everyone enjoys seeing. With so many things to see and do, DC can seem a little overwhelming to even the most experienced travelers. We have been to DC many times through the years visiting family and have seen them all.  Here’s a list of our favorite museums.

Museums

If you’re interested in going to Museums, here’s my top four choices:

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History Museum

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is a must visit in Washington DC. The museum is filled with insects, mammals, dazzling jewels on display, artifacts, specimens of plants, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, and meteorites.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

This is a great museum for kids of all ages, home to huge planes, hands-on experiments, flight simulators and even a moon rock you can touch.  It is a real learning experience for kids. My favorite part was the Wright Brother’s exhibit. The original plane is very impressive!

U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum

This museum takes you on a historical journey from pre- World War II Germany, Hitler’s rise to power, the horrors faced by Jews during the War, and Post-War atrocities seen by the liberators.

International Spy Museum

The Spy Museum, is one of D.C.’s most popular attractions and a huge hit with older children and parents alike. It explores the history of espionage with interactive exhibits and an hourlong program for visitors ages 12 and up. Operation Spy, which combines live-action video characters, special effects and hands-on activities, makes for an intrigue-filled adventure based on an actual case drawn from the files of U.S. intelligence. The International Spy Museum also offers Spy in the City™, a new GPS-based interactive experience that allows participants to embark on a series of self-guided outdoor missions using GPS technology.

Tours

Thinking about what places to see in DC, If you don’t want to spend your day driving around looking for parking, not sure what metro stop to take or just short on time, booking a tour is the way to go. Most tour companies offer to take you to most of the tourist sites.  Not all of them allow you time to get off and walk around on your own.

On Board Sighting Tours – is one of the best tour companies in DC.  They have tour packages for all your travel needs.  Make your reservations early because they fill up fast.

So much culture in DC – I was expecting it to be kinda boring to be honest, but that’s the awesome thing about travel … you are always proven wrong in one way or another!

      Hi Adam,

DC is a great city. Lots of great restaurants, theaters and sites to see. It’s also easy to get around the city without driving, we mostly use the metro when we go.
