What’s hardest about leaving on a trip?

LUXURY TRAVEL

While I am always excited about my trips, there is the flip side and a little sadness about leaving home. What’s the hardest part for each of you about leaving home? For me, it’s leaving my kids but they hate it when I talk about them in the blog so I’ll move right on to number two, my dogs.

Emy and Bella, our Shih-Tzu’s

My dogs have learned that when they see suitcases, it means that I’m going away which they do not like. Their first reaction is to (and this is true), try to get into the suitcases. Whenever we leave a suitcase open that they can get to, they jump into it.

We make a point of not letting them see the suitcases but they still seem to sense when we are about to go away and they give us the big sad eyes look.

In fact, we almost always get a house sitter so the dogs aren’t alone much and this time, the house is full of people who the dogs love so its hard to really believe that they are suffering.

Of course, when we get back home, we can look forward to them going beserk, spinning in circles, barking, laughing, rolling, and spinning some more.

awwwww that made me sad!!! Because it’s so true! When I start packing my puppy just knows and he gets so sad! He starts ignoring me but is always by the suitcase, even falls asleep next to it so that I don’t leave him! 🙁

Hi Kim, I try to hide the suitcase until we are ready to leave, because if I take it out she will either climb into it or jump on top. I guess that’s her way of telling me she doesn’t want me to leave.

Thanks Shaun. We love our dogs and it’s hard to leave them behind in every trip.

It’s funny how once we get away from home, it’s the dogs that we seem to think about. The kids I can text but it’s hard to Facetime with the doggies.

John, I agree. They get so happy when we walk in the door.

We had to leave Oliver, our collie/Sheppard mix, for the first time and it’s definitely been harder on us than on him!!
